🍂As we plummet into fall,
There’s so much unfolding that I thought I might send a little round-up. My last Museletter came out in June, and all that stuff is still in progress…with a few exciting distractions…!
As September began, I hosted the Poet’s Parlor at the Gatsby Summer Afternoon again. This was my fourth year of hauling out my precious velvet throne so party goers could bring the poetry, prose, emotion and perception of another era back to life.

Coming up, there’s something for almost everyone!
For Millions
(That’s my new word for Millsies/Mills Women)
On Friday, September 27, I’ll have a booth at reunion at the “Mills Marketplace” in the meadow, bringing out my traveling bookstore and Mills goodies, including the new Mad About Mills memes collection, which you can get wherever you are! After the pop-up, I’ll be reading (probably this) at the Writers Salon. That evening, I’m co-hosting Ghosts of Mills at Ghost Town Brewery—stop in and see old friends if being on campus still gives you the willies.
For Costumers, Movie Fans & Beer Buffs
Lace up your dirndls and head to the Dimond District for Oaktoberfest’s Dirndl Day on October 5th! My creative shenanigans (or Spielereien, auf Deutsch) are creating a lot of excitement, and I hope you can come out and play! There’s a fashion show at 5pm (Say you're coming on Facebook!), a polka brawl at 3-ish, and all-day showings of my cult couture comedy, The Dirndl Diaspora. (Have you seen the movie? It’s on tap for $ubscribers, scroll down to the bottom of this post to watch.) All the Dirndl Day info is on this page — please check it out and share!
Here’s special goodie…this joyful interview I did with Deborah Livingston after the show first launched in 2020. She played regal Julie Weiss, the customer who’s going to talk about sustainable economies at the United Nations!
For Dancers
I will need more agile bodies around 3-4ish on Dirndl Day for “KRS10 and the Polkadot Platoon!” It’s kind of a flash mob zumba polka thing—YES, I’ll be teaching Oakland how to polka in 20 seconds flat to Myron Florin…then choreographing the crowd into a dance battle the Town will never forget! Email me with your phone number if you’ll be there and I’ll text you the deets when the time’s confirmed!
I am OBSESSED with the incredibly silly viral video, "Barbara'a Rhubarb Bar"! In the spirit of full German nerdery, I’m using it in the act. Watch this video for a translation!
For Writers
On October 12th, I’ll host the CWC in Joaquin Miller Park, celebrating “The Day Formerly Known as Columbus.” All members of Oakland’s literary community are invited to converse, through their own writings, with historic California Writers, especially on themes meaningful to Indigenous people. Here’s the event page, I hope you can come!
For Local History Buffs
I’ve been invited to speak at the Oakland Library’s Fall Speaker Series. Join me at the Main Library for “Walkin with Joaquin,” November 13th 6-7:30pm!
For Parents
November 20th is World Children’s Day. I’ll be doing an Uplift talk about Democratic Parenting, featuring teachings from The Winning Family plus a presentation about the brand new Everybody’s Everybody, a children’s musical that highlights the UN Convention on the Rights on the Child. Location tba!
All these events are on my events calendar on my website! Watch for invite links on Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin!
