Today’s offering is a story for my inner circle about artists in love. It’s both about and dedicated to the artist I love, who dragged his toys and movie posters across the country to share space with my art and antiques. It’s because of him I like Marvel movies, Flag Day, and football as well as opera, World Friendship Day, and roller-skating.
In August of 2017, I was honored to headline StorySlam Oakland, Oakland's longest-running true storytelling show. The theme was “Road Trips,” and I’d written and memorized a story about traveling with an old friend who was in the running for a new love.
“A good road trip story requires certain ingredients,” my story began. “A road. A car. A destination or lack thereof. Companionship or lack thereof. And, if the story takes place any time in the last 50 years, music. And ideally, someone gets a good snapshot.”
