I finally did it! I finished recording The Winning Family: Where No One Has to Lose for the audiobook—the compilation of my life's wisdom, for parents and other humans, combined with my mom's life wisdom, which she passed along to me.
It’s been on my to do list every week since, what, last May? (Remember when I thought I’d be posting a chapter every week? Hahahahaha.) I’ve been chipping away in hour-long chunks spend recording, editing, and trying to keep track of thirty-two amazing chapters. It’s been a series of completions, each worthy of celebrating…and there are many more to come!
Thank you to all who supported and cheered me on. And thank you to Notion for helping me keep track of every little thing!
Okay okay. Apparently I am posting! Because I know you're dying to hear how I've skillfully woven my mother's voice and mine together. Twist my arm—Ow, okay okay! I will drop Chapter 28 in The Cave! It's called “The Power (and Pleasures!) of Play.”
I even got kinda playful… punchy even, tweaking the pitch in my funny voices for this epic dialogue between my brothers:
Play Fighting
Arguing in a playful way diffuses tension and builds verbal self-defense skills. But beware—insults and teasing can be play only if everyone is in on the game. Here’s a famous dialogue held by my brothers in the back seat of the car.
Felix: “We really don’t have any sibling rivalry; I just know I’m better.”
Damian: “No. I’m better loved.”
Felix: “Mom loves me best, though.”
Damian: “Mom loves me best! She had me first.”
Felix: “She didn’t know what she was doing.”
Obviously, they were both wrong…mom loves ME best!
Right mom? (This is a test to see if my brothers are reading…)
Below is the full chapter for my $upporting $ubscribers! The Winning Family: Where No One Has to Lose audiobook will be released this spring through Uplift Press. It gives parents confidence, skills, and tools for connection in a stressful world. Here’s a pre-order discount!
