Welcome, old friends and new eyeballs!
Here’s the story of how I named this new blog.
It’s been said for years that I am a kaleidoscope, a fire hose, a creative force. I knew I needed a carousel, a canopy for my offerings. I had some branding guidance this year that recognized me as a lighthouse, a a beacon, a guide, a problem solver, a heretic, a freak, a genius. I went through a dozen names for this new sharing space, an agonizing process, at first trying to invent, then trying to recall the words that really inspire me. I remembered my writer and poet friend from college, Kilian Melloy, who invented an entire language. He gave all of his friends names in Gimbanek. My name was Kalia Drakhala. “Stargirl” + “She Who Finds”. Beautiful. “You are the guide, the northern star,” he said. By the way, drakhala is Hindi for branch, and I am part of a family tree. I love that.
