Ashley St. Helens is a seventeen-year-old with Cinderellish problems. In this scene from The Souls of Her Feet, she’s facing a long list of chores and wishing she could go to senior prom. It was wonderful to hear again from my long-lost collaborator on the musical. We almost finished it! On a rewrite of the last song, this creative force realized he wanted to write as well as compose—and look at him now, with half a dozen musicals under his belt! It was such a wonderful surprise when he reached out to me again last year, when he staged a cabaret of his work. It includes “A Girl Like Me,” the first song he composed…now fully developed and ready for Disney…or Broadway!! My lyrics begin at about 1:00. This performer is the bomb!
